Rehabilitative Qigong and Tai Chi for beginners Rehabilitative Qigong and Tai Chi for beginners
–
May 7, 2025Rehabilitative Qigong and Tai Chi involves simple, easy to learn movements. We will not become frustrated learning a complex choreographed form as is taught in classical Tai Chi. Rather, we will repeat a few basic movements. Through this repetition, we can learn to move with greater ease, confidence, and awareness. And by moving in a relaxed manner, we will begin to experience a state of healing. Also, the benefits of self massage, coordinating and deepening the breath, and meditation will be explored. Some benefits of this practice include improved balance, strength, coordination, flexibility, thinking, mood and more... These classes are appropriate for anyone with mild to moderate PD. No prior experience necessary.
Facilitator: Gil Wette
I’ve been a practicing physical therapist since 1994. I have worked in my own private practice until recently when I took medical leave. I was diagnosed with PD in 2014 when I was 50 years old. Having experience in Tai Chi, my interest in this practice was revitalized after learning of my condition. Now I’m looking to share in the benefits I have gained from the practice of Rehabilitative Tai Chi and Qigong.

The Parkinson's Support Group in Larimer County is honored to have Dr. Barmore speak to us on Insomnia - Sleep and Parkinson's - REM, restless leg syndrome, too much sleepiness. We thank him for his expertise and time to be with us May 7, 10:30am, Fort Collins Senior Center.
About Dr. Ryan Barmore
Dr. Barmore's specialty is neurology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado, Aurora, in 2013, fulfilled his neurology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2017 and completed his fellowship in 2019 from the University of Florida College of Medicine. In 2017 he was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. We are lucky to have him serving us in both Fort Collins and Loveland through Banner Health.
Dr. Barmore believes the foundation of a good patient physician relationship is communication, and he strives to first understand an individual's values and goals of care. He takes the extra time to understand, but, just as important, is taking the time to educate patients and their families about their disease, which may impact multiple areas of their lives.
Dr. Barmore specializes in neurology with special interest in movement disorders including Parkinson's disease, tremor, dystonia, Huntington disease, gait disorders as well as the use of advanced therapies including deep brain stimulation.

Keynote Speaker, Jane Barton
Jane W. Barton, author of "Caregiving for the GENIUS", is a passionate national speaker, writer, and listener. As the founder of Cardinal, LLC, she provides educational programs, books, videos, podcasts, and blogs to assist people in confronting the daunting challenges posed by aging, serious illness, and the end of life. Jane is well versed in the areas of grief and bereavement, caregiving, hospice and palliative care, change and transition, and spirituality and health. She presents innovative, transformational programs to community members, healthcare providers, pastoral caregivers, clergy, funeral service providers, and national audiences.
Jane will be speaking on Compassion Fatigue: When It Hurts to Care
As professional or personal caregivers, we witness the suffering of others- physical, emotional, and spiritual suffering. To witness the pain and suffering of others is to be forever changed. Compassionate people bear the suffering of others and often times compromise their own health and well being when they assume too much of the burden. We must always be aware of where we end, and the other person begins- the importance of boundaries. We can companion others in life, but we cannot assume the responsibility for another’s life. To do so puts us at risk of experiencing compassion fatigue, a risk for all who care.

Rehabilitative Qigong and Tai Chi for beginners Rehabilitative Qigong and Tai Chi for beginners
–
May 28, 2025Rehabilitative Qigong and Tai Chi involves simple, easy to learn movements.
