April Support Meeting: Parkinson's Foundation Hospital Safety Guide

April 3, 2024

Prairie Sage Rooms 2&3

Parkinson's Foundation Hospital Safety Guide

People with Parkinson’s disease (PD) are at a higher risk of hospitalization and face many challenges while in the hospital; for example, studies show that 3 out of 4 don’t receive their medication on time during a hospital stay. It is important for all people with Parkinson’s to be aware of the risks, prepare ahead of time, and know how to advocate for their needs while in the hospital.

The Hospital Safety Guide is filled with useful tools and information to help a person with Parkinson’s and their care partners prepare for and navigate their next hospital visit whether planned or unplanned. This presentation will be an overview of the Hospital Safety Guide and hospital care so you can move forward with confidence.

Sadie McCoy, Parkinson's Foundation

Sadie McCoy got involved with the Parkinson's Foundation in 2016 after her grandmother was diagnosed with PD. She started as a volunteer, organizing her family for Moving Day to show love and support to her grandma. Eventually, she took on more and more as a volunteer, including sharing Hospital Safety with her community. When an internship opened up for the Volunteer Engagement team, she jumped on the opportunity, and they liked having the extra help so much that they turned that internship into a full-time position which she was able to apply for. Now Sadie gets to support volunteers across the country as they work to make life better for people with Parkinson's. She does this from her home office in a little mountain town called Crestline in CA, with the love and support of her husband, three daughters, dog, and bunny.
